Richard P. Barton was born in the United Kingdom and moved to Canada in 1984. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts in English and History from the University of Western Ontario in 1991. After graduation, he worked in Yamagata, Japan for two years, teaching English in high schools. In 1995 he earned a Masters degree in Japanese Studies from the University of Essex in the UK. He returned to Canada, and in 1999 he received his Bachelor of Laws from the University of British Columbia.

Richard joined Allan Francis Pringle LLP as an associate lawyer in 2006. Before joining Allan Francis Pringle LLP, he practiced law in both the Fraser Valley and in Kelowna. Currently, he practises in the areas of personal injury litigation, commercial litigation, and prosecutions for the Federal Crown. He has successfully completed numerous trials in the Supreme Court of British Columbia. Richard became a partner of Allan Francis Pringle LLP in January of 2010.

In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his wife and two young children, as well as squash, hiking, and golf.
